Five seniors from the Grand Prairie Collegiate Institute gathered at the Grand Prairie Independent School District headquarters in Grand Prairie, Texas to be officially inducted into their internship programs and be honored by city officials.
GPCI allows 12th-grade students to gain career experience through internships with companies in and around Grand Prairie. Six seniors were able to gain internships this month, some even starting last week. Four seniors, Demi Cole, Jeremiah Bostick, Ahjine Seay, and Jessai Flores were chosen to intern at UT Southwestern Medical Center. One senior, Edward Aguilar, joined the Frontiers of Flight Museum in Dallas, while another, Sam Safaei Mehro, is set to intern with courier company, DHL.
To honor the five out of six seniors who could attend, GPISD held a signing ceremony on November 11th, where they signed their internship contracts, officially recognizing their new positions. Mr. Bostick was in Atlanta and could not be in attendance. Grand Prairie Mayor Ron Jensen and City Councilwoman Jorja Clemson were also in attendance.
At the ceremony, Mayor Jensen and Ms. Clemson congratulated the high schoolers and posed for photos with the group. GPISD officials, including GPCI administrator Apryl Harrison also posed for photographs.
The newly signed seniors, with the exception of Mr. Aguilar, who had already begun interning before the ceremony, are set to begin their internships sometime later this month or early December.
